Delta Dental Foundation Gives Grant to
Cleveland Dental Clinic
August 21, 2007 (Okemos, Mich.) — The Delta Dental Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, recently donated $25,000 to the Saint Luke’s General Practice Residency Dental Clinic (Clinic) in Cleveland.
The grant will allow the Clinic to better serve patients and attract dentists to the residency program by funding the purchase and refurbishment of clinical equipment. In addition, funds will support programming designed to educate dental residents on the importance of caring for the underserved population.
“St. Vincent Charity Hospital, in partnership with Saint Luke’s Dental Clinic, is making great strides in improving access to dental treatment for those most underserved in Cleveland,” said Nancy E. Hostetler, senior vice president of the Delta Dental Foundation. “We are pleased to support a program whose mission so closely aligns with ours.”
“We are very thankful to Delta Dental Foundation for providing supplemental funding to support this important aspect of the dental healthcare safety net,” said Kym Hemley, program officer, Sisters of Charity Foundation. “These funds will stabilize and revitalize the program, as well as ensure the continuation of accessible and affordable dental care for the residents of these neighborhoods.”

Located in the St. Vincent Charity Hospital Medical Office Building at Saint Luke’s Pointe in Cleveland, the General Practice Residency Dental Clinic provides services through a team of dental residents, general practitioners and specialists who annually care for more than 3,000 patients – of those, nearly 75 percent are low-income. The Clinic’s patients live in the nearby Buckeye-Shaker, Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Carmel neighborhoods – a particularly impoverished area of Cleveland where many residents lack the resources to obtain needed dental care.
